Sharon was born in the coal mining village of Aoji, located in Hoeryong City of North Hamgyong Province. She lived in North Korea for 21 years before escaping from North Korea in 2011 and arriving in South Korea in 2012. She became a South Korean citizen in June 2012 and has two children.
She graduated from Sechon High School in North Korea in 2008. She is working towards a BS in Social Work at Seoul Cyber University.
From 2014 to 2015, she worked at Paidion Missionary Association translating the children’s bible from South Korean to the North Korean language for North Koreans.
She first joined Freedom Speakers International in early 2015 as an English language student and public speaker. From mid-2019 until 2022, she was an office assistant and accountant at FSI. She joined FSI’s North Korean Refugee Keynote Speakers Network when it was formed in late 2020.
Sharon loves to cook and hopes to open a North Korean restaurant one day.
